Worst free throw attempt ever?

First and Short is based out of North Carolina. We've got a lot of friends- and respect, for the two biggest schools in the western part of the state. And while we like Appalachian State (a very successful FCS football school) and their rival Western Carolina, we must say that they do not pride themselves on their men's basketball programs. Nor should they. Just take a look at what might be the worst free throw attempt ever.

Nasty volleyball spike takes out two

If you didn't watch this video until the end, you might have missed a fan get taken out by the ball after ricocheting off an opponents face. The fan fell to the ground, probably making this the first high school volleyball spike to every take two people out on the same play. Not surprising, the team doing the spiking won the match. Holy Trinity Catholic advanced to the Iowa state high school volleyball championships.

Canadian punt returner punts ball, team recovers for touchdown

Have you ever seen two punts on the same play? How about with the second one leading to a touchdown? 

Canadian football rules state that on scrimmage kicks (i.e., punts and missed field goals), the returning team can respond by immediately punting the ball back to the other team, creating a free-for-all where whichever team gets to the ball first will retain possession. As long as there are five players behind the punter (on the returning team) when the ball is punted back, the team is “onside.”

With this rule in mind. We know that this play was legal, and the correct result (a touchdown) was made by the officials.

Previewing Texans at Jets

We regret to inform you that there's no podcast to preview the Monday night match-up between the Houston Texans and New York Jets. J.J. lost his voice Saturday night at the NC State/Florida State game (his Wolfpack won 17-16).

As for the game? The 4-0 Texans will head to New York to take on the 2-2 New York Jets. The Jets have struggled through four weeks on both sides of the ball, and the Texans boast one of the league's best offenses.
